Time to meet the students !

It's that time again, time to meet the students that we will be working with for the next five weeks of the semester! It's always exciting when you first walk into a classroom full of children, you get the opportunity to meet each student and learn a little bit about them and they get to learn a little bit about you before you begin your journey with them. Each group comes up with a getting to know you activity and we take turns rotating from table to table to learn a little bit about each individual in the class. My group decided on having the children create a poster on what they think the middle ages looked like.  We watched as students created their posters with drawings of castles and horses, along with knights and towns. Each student told us what they drew and why they drew it. We also played two truths and a lie with the students so that we were able to learn a little bit about each of them along with them learning a little bit about each of us. This activity gave students the opportunity to be creative and use their imagination when it came to drawing the middle ages and what they think it looked like back then. This was a quick fun and easy way to break the ice with meeting new students and have them actively engaged with an activity from day one. We were able to learn what the students may already know about the middle ages and something they want to learn about the middle ages, so it made it a little easier to plan our lesson and incorporate information. This was a fun and easy way of getting to know each student in the class! It was a great way to start fieldwork.

Digital Me

The beginning of the semester is here, and its time to get back into the grove of things and get to know one another before we take on the semester together. We were assigned a digital tool to create an about me project to present to our classmates. I thought this was a great opportunity to get to know a little bit about each other and how to use different types of digital sites that we can use in our classrooms one day. By doing this activity we were able to learn the background of each student in our class, how old they are, where they grew up, what nationality they are and so much more. I created my digital me project using glogster and introduced myself to the class. I provided information about me, my nationality and what I look forward to learning and teaching in Social Studies Methods. I personally think glogster is a great tool to use in the classroom if you are trying to create a poster on material you may have learned on a certain topic. Glogster allows you to upload words, pictures, videos and links. It is quick and easy to use and I think students will have no problem navigating the site if used in their classroom one day. There were many other useful digital sites that I was introduced to as well, Go Animate, Tagul, Thinglink, Pintrest and many others. This project got us started incorporating technology into learning right away. I think it is a great way to start off the semester and get to know our peers. I am excited to use these sites and tools in my very own classroom one day.
